Ballpark flavors get a cozy, homemade twist with hot dogs wrapped in store-bought pizza dough and cooked until golden in the air fryer. Dunk them into the warm, creamy Cheddar cheese sauce for the ultimate game-day win.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup baking soda
- 1 (16 - oz.) bag refrigerated white pizza dough, room temperature
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Toppings: sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning and coarse salt
- Cooking spray
- 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
- 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1 ¼ cups milk
- 1 (8 - oz.) bag shredded mild Cheddar cheese
Steps
- Fill a large pot three-fourths with water. Add baking soda and bring to a boil over high.
- Meanwhile, place dough on a lightly floured surface and roll into a 9x12-inch rectangle. Cut dough along short side into 8 equal strips. Wrap dough strips around hot dogs and pinch dough onto itself to stick.
- Once water is boiling, gently drop in 4 hot dogs and cook 1 minute, turning gently as they cook. Using a slotted spoon, transfer hot dogs to a paper towel-lined dish. Repeat with remaining hot dogs.
- Brush beaten egg over dough. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning or coarse salt.
- Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Lightly coat basket with cooking spray. In batches if necessary, place pretzel dogs in basket. Air-fry until golden brown and puffed, 8–10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, melt butter over medium. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute. Slowly whisk in milk and cook until thickened, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cheese. Mix until melted. Season with salt and pepper. Serve on the side with hot dog pretzels.
Tips
To bake in the oven: Preheat to 425°F and bake the wrapped hot dogs on a parchment-lined baking sheet until golden and crisp, 12–15 minutes.
